ALL NATURAL WOOD CASKETS

 Here in Tallahassee, Davy Wood Studio is designing and constructing simple wooden caskets made from locally grown Juniper, Cypress and Cherry (some caskets may be trimmed with a small amount of wood that has not been grown here). No metal is used, and all wood-to-wood connections are glued and dowelled. The glue we use is completely biodegradable, and is safe enough for food contact. All caskets are hand sanded. If a finish is desired, an organic linseed oil or mineral oil is hand applied and rubbed.

At Davy Wood Studio, we believe in sustainability and leaving as little impact on our planet as we can. 

 “Back in the day,” when folks died, they were put into a simple wooden box and were buried in the family cemetery. The remains, including the box, or casket, soon decomposed and everything returned to the earth.

WHY ALL NATURAL WOOD CASKETS?

More and more people are making changes in the way they live, to lessen the environmental impact their life choices make.  The modern funeral philosophy of metal or plywood caskets, metal brackets and hinges, all encased in concrete doesn’t make any environmental sense for someone who has lived an environmentally conscientious life.

We offer two sizes (medium and large) and custom sizes on request. We have caskets on hand or we can usually make a custom size within two days.  Prices start at $850, but most caskets are around $1,000
